If you are looking to install a golf simulator in Vancouver and are in need of some help, you have come to the right place! We often get asked what is the best type of synthetic turf to use for a golf simulator or what should I use to surface my golf simulator… After installing dozens of sims across Vancouver and the lower mainland, we have found the best combination is the NP45 or NP50 for your putting green turf, paired with the EZtee for your driving mat. Don’t get too caught up in the product names, but these are among the most realistic, high quality turf products made in the USA (steer clear of turf that is manufactured in China, it will not last for your simulator!)
Important considerations:
- Getting the hitting mat, flush with the surrounding putting green turf. To do this, you will need to install a layer of “dricore” subflooring, which is comparable to plywood. This will allow you to recess the hitting mat (which is thicker than the putting green), and the two surfaces will sit flush. This is very important, as most golf simulators involve a putting component in which you actually putt from the mat into the screen. Additionally, it is very annoying to bend down each time, pick up the ball and bring it back on the mat, so don’t skip the subfloor!
- The dimensions of your simulator and where to place the EZtee hitting mat. The type of tech that you are using, will determine where the hitting mat should go, as Trackman has different requirements from Foresight, Full Swing, Flightscope, etc. You should also know that the putting green turf only comes in a 15’ width, so therefore a 15’ width is about perfect for your sim area and will have no seams or wasted turf.
- You may want to add holes to your new indoor putting green! The best surface for the surrounding area of a golf sim is putting green turf, so you might as well add a couple holes and turn it into an indoor putting green as well! To submerge a regulation cup, it may involve coring holes into the concrete or subflooring. This is something you will want to do before the simulator is fully installed.
